Manali to Padum : It is a 10-day trek. The motor road by bus from Leh to Manali takes you to Baralacha La. On the second day you cross the Baralacha La, a double pass where even the lower side is higher than Europe's highest mountain and twice the height of Australia's highest. At the end of Day six you continue north to Padum or turn back south and cross the Shingo La back to Darcha in two days. On Day 7 you can make a detour to the spectacular Phuctal Gompa. Padum to Lamayuru : There are a number of alternatives for this trek from Padum into Ladakh, intersecting the road at Lamayuru, about halfway from Kargil to Leh. The trek starts from Padum to Thonde, as on the short treks to the Zangla and Karsha gompas. Padum to Kishtwar : This trek is in the southern part of Kashmir and crosses the 5234-metre Umasi La.On the second day you reach the Zongkhul Gompa, which can also be visited on a short trek from Padum. Day 3 is a long climb and long descent over the snow-covered Umasi La. Other Treks : Padum to Nimmu follows the Padum to Lamayuru route for most of its length, then turns off eastwards to join the Srinagar to Leh road at Nimmu. Padum to Leh by the Markha Valley is a trek which goes via Zangla before turning east over the Charcha La and the Ruberung La to the Markha Gompa, and eventually reaching Hemis near Leh.
