Veraval is on the south coast of Saurashtra. It is one of India's major fishing ports and as the base for a visit to Somnath Temple, 5 km. south of the town. It is well worth a wander around the port. Between Veraval and Somnath, a large ship lies on the shore. GETTING THERE AND AWAY AIR : Keshod, the nearest airport, is serviced by Vayudoot but there is no Vayudoot office in Veraval. Somnath Travels in Satta Bazaar will obtain tickets for a fee. BUS : Daily buses run from the bus station to Diu via Kodinar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Rajkot and Bhavnagar. There are daily departures for Porbundar, Dir, Rajkot and Junagadh. TRAIN : It is 431 km from Ahmedabad to Veraval. There are slow steam passenger trains for Sasan Gir and one daily passenger service to Delwada (for Diu). There are daily trains to Rajkot. AROUND VERAVAL Chorwad : The summer palace of the Junagadh nawabs, situated at the popular beach resort of Chorwad, 70 km from Junagadh and 20 km from Veraval, was converted by the Gujarat State Tourism Department into the beautiful Palace Beach Resort. The hotel is surrounded by well-tended gardens and overlooks the sea.
