SRINAGAR TO LEH Alchi: Famous for massive Buddha statues and lavish woodcarvings. Lekir & Basgo: It is noted for its Buddha figures. Mulbekh:There are two gompas on the hillside above the village of Mulbekh Rizong:Beyond Khalsi,is the nunnery of julichen and the monastery of Rizong Lamayuru:It is the first of the typical Ladakhi gompas perched on a hilltop with its village at the foot of the hill. Other Places:Zoji La,Drass,Kargil,Shergol. LEH Leh Palace:The Zanskar mountains,look close enough to touch. Leh & Tsemo Gompas:It stands above the palace and houses manuscripts and paintings.It contains a fine three-storey-high seated Buddha image. Sankar Gompa:The gompa has electric lighting so an evening visit is worthwhile. GETTING THERE AND AWAY AIR : Indian Airlines has flights from Delhi, Srinagar, Jammu and Chandigarh. BUS : There are two overland routes into Leh: the road from Srinagar and the road from Manali (Himachal Pradesh).
