Siliguri is a town with major trade centre for the north-east, Darjeeling, Sikkim and the east of Nepal. New Jalpaiguri, the main railway junction, is 8 km. south of Siliguri. 12 km. from Siliguri is Bagdogra, the airport serving this northern region.



GETTING THERE AND AWAY AIR Bagdogra airport is 12 km from Siliguri. There are daily flights to Calcutta, and flights daily, except on Monday and Saturday, to Delhi and Gawahati. Flights to Dimapur and Dibrugarh go twice weekly. BUS State Transport Corporation buses leave from the new Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Terminal, private buses from just outside. There are day and overnight services between Siliguri and Calcutta. Other destination to the south inculde Malda, Berhampore and Patna. For Darjeelling there is a direct bus connecting with flights. From Siliguri there are several an hour from 6 am to 5 pm. There are also private Mazda buses which are faster. Direct buses connect Siliguri with Kalimpong. Sikkim Nationalised Transport run hourly buses to Gangtok between 7 am and 4 pm from its office on Hill Cart Td, opposite the main bus station. The buses between Darjeelilng and Kathmandu also run through Siliguri. TRAIN From Calcutta, trains go from Sealdah and Howrah to New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri. The NE express is the fastest train between New Jalpaiguri and New Delhi. It also goes by Moghulserai near Varanasi, and Patna. This train also links New Jalpaiguri with Gawahati.
