MADIKERI SIGHTSEEING

The small town of Madikeri, the capital of Coorg region, is 124 km. west of Mysore. It is a mountainous area in the south-west of the state where the western ghats start to tumble down towards the sea, and is green, scenic and fertile. Coorg is an important coffee-growing area. The view from Raja's Seat, the local scenic lookout, is wonderful. There is a fort and also the Omareswara Temple. A small museum is housed in an old church within the walls of the fort, while the old palace itself is now used as the local municipal headquarters.
