LEH PALACE The Zanskar mountains, across the Indus River, look close enough to touch. LEH AND TSEMO GOMPAS The Leh Gompa stands high above the palace and houses manuscripts and paintings. The Red Gompa, conains a fine three-stoorey-high seated Buddha image. SANKAR GOMPA The gompa has electric lighting so an evening visit is worthwhile. Upstairs is an impressive representation of Avalokitesvara complete with 1000 arms and 1000 heads. CENTRE FOR ECOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT Next door to the Tsemo-La Hotel is the HQ of the Ladakh Ecological Development Group(LEDeG). This include solar energy, environmental and health education, strenthening the traditional system of organic farming and publishing books in the local language.
