SWOLLEN ANKLES, FEET AND FINGERS
Causes
Ankles, feet and fingers often swell
a little in pregnancy because the body holds more water than
usual. Towards the end of the day, especially if the weather
is hot or if you have been standing a lot, the extra water
tends to gather in the lowest parts of the body. But once
you have rested with your feet's up you will soon notice a
marked improvement. Consult your doctor if you are worried
about the swelling. However if you have swelling of the face
then consult your doctor immediately.
Remedies
- Avoid
standing for too long period.
- Wear
comfortable shoes.
- Put
your feet up as much as you can-try to rest for an hour
a day with your feet higher than your heart.
- Try
to do some foot exercises.
- Don't
wear anything tight that restricts circulation to your legs.
- Take
regular exercise-walking is especially beneficial.
-
When sitting gently rotate ankles
and feet to improve circulation.
