Sheetal
Malhar created ripples in Indian Modelling circuit when she beat Madhu Sapre
to win Femina Look of the Year, 1994. She was also placed in the first 12 finalists
in Elite Supermodel Contest. After this Elite took over and groomed her into an
international model. Since then, she hasn't looked back. Now more of an international
model than an Indian model, she is busy walking the ramp in Paris, Milan and New
York. After working with Elite, when she came back to India, she became the most
sought after model in India. According to herself, modelling was not
even in the periphery of her vision. It just happened thanks to Society Photographer
Gautam Raiyadhakshya (discoverer of Malaika Arora too). Sheetal was a gawky, stupid
17 year old. But he mustered spirit and confidence in her and also nudged and
forced her to accept work and tale up modelling as full time career. He got her
her first assignment, the prestigious Danabhai Jewellers. She didn't get the chance
to work with Gautam therafter as he moved on to work with filmstars. Meanwhile
campaigns like L.G. Electronics, Mcdowells, Gold Flake kept the cash rolling in.
A well chiselled face, a jaw line to kill for, she perfectly fit the
mould of ensemble or jewellery. Unfortunately her short hair and dusky skin ruled
out beauty and hair commercials. Once again she created ripples, when
she was chosen by Maybelline cosmetics to model its products. In Mumbai
to stay for a while, sheetal enrolled herself at the Xavier Institute of Communications
for a computer course. "I NEED to study and do something more, get in touch with
my friends and family and take it easy for a while." And why not - she deserves
it after all those hectic shoots and shows! According to her, Atul Kasbekar
and Hemant Trivedi are only friends in this industry. Unlike other models, Sheetal
is not interested in Bollywood.
