Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, John Abraham, Anousha Dandekar, Sachin Khedekar, Sanjay Dutt (special appearance)
Mahesh Manjrekar's latest film revolves round the retired life of Vidyadhar Patwardhan (Amitabh Bachchan) and his wife Sumitra (Sharmila Tagore). Vidyadhar was a ground manager at Air India, Sumitra was a school principle. They live a tranquil and peaceful life together.
However tragedy strikes when their grown-up son (John Abraham) is killed after unintentionally witnessing some criminal activity. This obviously has a massive affect on his parents. Their lives change forever and the most testing struggle of their lives begin. Vidyadhar and Sumitra find themselves seeking justice in a cold and uncaring world, making them question their faith in human values and society. It is in this struggle many aspects of the special bond between Vidyadhar and Sumitra come to the fore - their love, trust, support and confidence in each other.
Sanjay Dutt makes a special appearance in the film, playing the lead couple's rugged car mechanic neighbour, who offers them support in their hour of need. Sachin Khedekar plays a corrupt police officer and VJ Anousha Dandekar makes her debut as John's foreign girlfriend.
Finally Mahesh Manjrekar has given a meaningful film after Vaastav and Astitva. The director takes a simple plot and narrates it with utmost simplicity. This songless movie touches your heart and makes you weep. The film is very high on substance and thankfully there is no melodrama in it. Though at times the film is very slow but the superb performances of all the cast and especially Amitabh Bachchan and Sharmila Tagore makes the film worth a watch.
Performance wise the film belongs to Big B. This is definetly the best phase in the life of Mr Bachchan. He has given a superb performance. Sharmila Tagore is a pleasure to watch. John Abraham's performance gets better with each movie. Sanjay Dutt has a brief role, but the actor makes his presence felt for sure. Sachin Khedekar is first-rate yet again. Amitabh Dayal is in terrific form. Rest of the cast lend able support. Overall, you cannot miss this film for the world. This is a film which you can watch with your family.
