Rakht, inspired by the Hollywood flick The Gift (starring Cate Blanchett, Keanu Reeves) is a supernatural thriller. The film focuses on six main protagonists, Drishti (Bipasha Basu), Sunny (Dino Morea), Rahul (Sanjay Dutt), Mohit (Sunil Shetty), Rhea (Neha Dhupia) and Natasha (Amrita Arora). Drishti (Bipasha Basu) has the phenomenal gift of reading tarot cards and sometimes seeing beyond the cards and into the future. Similar to the Hollywood film, she is a young widow and mother and makes a living by using her gift to help others. A school pincipal named Rahul (Sanjay Dutt) finds that his fiancée Natasha (Amrita Arora) is missing. Natasha was a classy girl who was known to be flirtatious. Police can't find her and this takes Rahul to Drishti. Sunny (Dino Morea) is a sadistic and devilish man who is a violent man and everyone around him is scared of him and his temper. Rhea (Neha Dhupia) is Sunny's wife who lives in constant fear and turns to Drishti for help. Mohit (Suniel Shetty) is disturbed by his haunting past and turns to Drishti as her friend. Who is the killer? Will Drishti find the killer? Mahesh Manjrekar manages a gripping film, but loses control over the film at the end. The climax is totally unexpected and dissappointing. Performance wise Bipasha does a good job. Amrita Arora also delivers a good performance. Suniel Shetty is good, in a badly written role. Sanjay Dutt looks his usual self in movies of this genre. Neha Dhupia does not have much to do. The surprise packet however is Dino Morea, who excels in his role. Yana Gupta oozes oomph, but her song is not placed rightly in the film even though she is mindblowing. Music is okay. Background score by Sandeep Chowta is up to the mark and enhances Manjrekar's work well. Overall, if you like thrillers you can go watch this film but go with absolutely no expectations.
