Kyun! Ho Gaya Na
Director: Sameer Karnik
Producer: Boney Kapoor
Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan
Kyun! Ho Gaya Na is an unlikely love story between a boy who is all for arranged marriages and a girl who is a diehard romantic. Diya Malhotra (Aishwarya Rai) is an idealistic, sensitive girl whose childhood was spent in the coffee plantation town of Coorg. Malhotra (Tinnu Anand) single-handedly brought up Diya, after his wife passed away. Malhotra has a dear friend Raj Chauhan (Amitabh Bachchan), a confirmed bachelor who has dedicated his life to a small orphanage. Diya has been involved with the work there and is committed her life to social work. For her Masters in social work exam, she comes to Mumbai where she ends up staying in Arjun's (Vivek Oberoi) home with his parents, who are friends of both Raj and the Malhotras. Arjun is a seemingly free spirited, fun loving, adventurous guy. The friendship that develops between Diya and Arjun and consequently their opposing views on love and marriage are the crux of the film. Nothing is unique and new in this love story. Yes there are a few surprise elements in the film involving the likes of Sunil Shetty, Diya Mirza and Tinnu Anand but we will not disclose anything further coz that will make the film more boring for you. There are some good comic scenes in the film but thats about it. The rest of the film is boring. Sameer Karnik makes a bad debut with this film. He should have taken more care with the script. Performance wise Vivek looks absolutely in love. He does a good job. Aishwarya looks gorgeous but there was definately something missing in her performance. Was she too much in love or was the overdose (on-screen, off-screen romance) too much for her to handle? A word of advice for Mr Bachchan, please look at the script before signing. Such movies will spoil your image. Music is very good. Camerawork by Sudeep Chatterjee is interesting, but that does not make a film. Overall, not a very entertaining film but if you are Aishwarya or Vivek fan, you can go watch the film.
