Asambhav - The Impossible
Cast: Arjun Rampal, Priyanka Chopra, Nazeeruddin Shah, Milind Gunaji
Music: Viju Shah
Asambhav is an out-and-out action film that deals with the theme of espionage. This film opens in Locarno, Switzerland. Mohan Agashe, an Indian diplomat and his daughter Kinjal (Dippanita Sharma), are kidnapped whilst holidaying in Switzerland. And this is the work of mastermind criminal Ansari (Milind Gunaji). Planning a conspiracy of international dimension, Ansari hires the Mabros Mercenaries (Shawar Ali and gang) to kidnap the diplomat and his daughter. They are kept under siege at the Brissago Islands. Ansari aims to exchange the diplomat for the international terrorist group Al-Hamas led by Yuzan (Mukesh Rishi).
Captain Aditya Arya (Arjun Rampal) works for the Indian Army. He is asked to carry out the undercover operation called mission Asambhav which he should complete within 75 hours. This operation takes Aadit to Switzerland. His job is to rescue the captives and bring them back safely to India. To generate the $50 million for Yuzan to pay the Mabros mercenaries, Ansari enlists the help of Sam Hans (Naseeruddin Shah) and Brian (Tom Alter) who in turn asks Dabral (Arif Zakaria) and his brother to con Alisha (Priyanka Chopra), a struggling pop singer, into the conspiracy. She gets entangled in a web of deceit with no fault of her own. Only Aadit can save her now. Can captain Aditya pull off this mission? Or is it an impossible task? Well the story sounds as old as the hills and frankly speaking there is nothing unique about the concept or the picturisation and camerawork. What was Rajiv Rai thinking when he saw the complete version of the film. Performance wise Arjun Rampal has done good. Actually his role demands him to be serious all the time and to bash up guys that he has done well. Priyanka given the limited scope to enact has also done well. But the brilliant actors like Nazeeruddin Shah, Mohan Agashe, Mukesh Rishi and Arif Zakaria have done a horrible job and seem to have sleep walked through their role. The only saving grace is the great action sequences and slick look of the film. The music by Viju Shah is quite nice too. Overall only if you are a die hard fan of action and Arjun Rampal this movie is worth watching or else take my suggestion please dont go on this asambhav task.
