Dev is a very hard-hitting film which shows the reality about slimy politicians and corruption. Govind Nihalani, the expert storyteller has featured a very dark, grim and serious issue by his film and the entire cast has given its full support to bring out the best. DEV is about Dev [Amitabh Bachchan] and Tej's [Om Puri] friendship that is stronger than blood ties. But Farhan [Fardeen Khan] emerges as the wedge driving them apart. The story unfolds against the vitiated atmosphere of present times where innocent lives become fodder for political expediency. Bachchan is Joint Police Commissioner who believes in serving and protecting the interests of the nation above all else. He is suspected of harbouring unpleasant feelings towards Muslims. But nothing could be further from the truth, even though his only son, aged 5, was a victim of a Muslim bullet and 'they' have made more than one attempt on his life and that of his wife, Dr Bharati (Rati Agnihotri). Farhaan is an unemployed law graduate who is the childhood sweetheart of Aalia Kareena Kapoor). Farhaan's father, Ali Saheb's violent death leaves him emotionally orphaned. Farhaan wants revenge and hatred slowly starts taking roots in the young man's heart. Farhan now bays for Dev's blood and is groomed into a life of violence by Latif's (Ehsaan Khan) henchmen. But when his own turn against him and aim to wipe him out, his only resort is the policeman he has been trying to kill. Om Puri, plays Special Commissioner Tejinder Khosla who becomes a victim of the system and does a classic good-cop-turned-bad routine. The seasoned performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Om Puri carry the film. Fardeen Khan springs a surprise by enacting a difficult role with flourish. He has done a great job. Kareena has also given a brilliant performance. Sporting a deglamorized look, the actress takes a giant leap with this film. Rest of the cast lend good support. Technically, the film is trumps. Nihalani has shot the film like an accomplished veteran [which he is]. In fact, the clash of ideals between Amitabh and Om Puri has also been shot with Úlan. music is ok. Overall a movie worth a dekho !!
