Aan - Men At Work
Director: Madhur Bhandarkar
Producer: Firoz Nadiadwala
Cast: Shatrughan Sinha, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Preety Jangiani, Om Puri and Irrfan Khan.
Aan is the story about the Mumbai Crime Branch and the life of four officers. Sr. Insp. Vikram Singh (Shatrughan Sinha) was frustrated with the system and since he was only a few years away from retirement he was not interested in anything. Sub. Insp. Appa Kadam Naik (Suniel Shetty) was the encounter king. For him eliminating the criminal was the only road towards peace. Const. Khaled Ansari (Paresh Rawal) was a poor man from a large family and usually kept things in a lighter vein in the branch. Everybody loved to have him around. All three believed that corruption was a way of life and accepted it as they knew that no one could beat the system! However things changed when a young IPS officer, DCP Hari Om Patnaik (Akshay Kumar) was transferred there from Poona. The officers soon found out that Hari was determined to make a difference. He even promised them that the day he gets the opportunity, he would take the system head on. Now these officers totally determined take up arms against Manik Rao (Manoj Joshi) - the corrupt Home Minister, an underworld don Yusuf Pathan (Irrfan Khan) and a rich builder and business magnate, Gautam Walia (Jackie Shroff). Raveena Tandon plays Roshni, a bar dancer in the film. Lara Dutta plays Kiran and is paired opposite Akshay while Preeti Jhangiani plays Janki and is paired opposite Suniel Shetty. The film goes on in a snails pace which makes the viewers restless and bored in the first half. Post-interval the film takes a little pace with several confrontation scenes and hard-hitting dialogues. Director Madhur Bhandarkar has tried his best to put life into the film but fails because of the loose dialogues and script. The film definitely deserved a better script. Performance wise Shatrughan ?Shotgun? Sinha`s return to the silver screen has been in a big and powerful way. He has given a powerful performance with authority and sincerity. Akshay and Sunil Shetty also did a good job. Om Puri and Paresh Rawal are completely wasted. And Irrfan Khan as usual excels. The glamour quotient in this action flick is handled by Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta and Preeti Jhangiani. But they are mere showcase in the movie. Music (Anu Malik) is okay. The item numbers are nicely executed. To sum it up ?Aan ? Men at Work? those who like hardcore cop-action film will only like the movie. For the rest the film is not worth wasting time.
