Best
known for the role of Kanu in Ram Gopal Verma's Company,
Antara Mali though a newcomer is no stranger to the world
of showbiz. Daughter of ace photographer Jagdish Mali, Antara
always wanted to be an actress. And when she decided that she
wanted to join films, her father did all to dissuade her but Antara
didn't lose faith in her talent and on God. She made her debut
in a small budget film called Doondte Reh Jaaoge. The film
went unnoticed and to Antara's dismay, her second film, Dum
Dum Diga Diga was shelved halfway through. Her next break
came with Ram Gopal Varma's Telugu film Prem Katha (with
Manoj Bajpai & Sumant) that did average business but there
seemed little chance of her making it in Hindi films.
After that, Antara did the second lead in Keshu Ramsay's Khiladi
420 with Akshay Kumar. Her sizzling act in the film went unnoticed
but when director Ram Gopal Varma, well known for resurrecting
careers, cast her in Mast, her life changed drastically.
Though her role of Anjali in the film was short, it gave her a
second lease as she hit it off well with Varma. A year later,
Ram Gopal Varma offered her the role of 'Kanu' opposite newcomer
Vivek Oberoi in Company. And that role made her a household
name as Antara gave a splendid performance. Then Road happened
and thus her journey in Bollywood looks very smooth and prosperous.
