Studio Payal Jain took root in 1993 after her return to India
as a graduate summa cum laude from the Fashion Institute of
Design and Merchandising, San Francisco, U.S.A.
Awarded the President's Honour Roll at the Institute, Payal
gained valuable experience working with some prestigious European
fashion houses during the course. During her stay in the U.S.,
Payal also worked at Fritzi California and San Francisco Clothings
Bank. Subsequently Payal worked with leading couturiers Jacqueline
de Brey and Ulrich Engler in Europe.
Since its inception Studio Payal Jain has come a long way.
It is recognised today as a leading salon de couture in India.
And the Payal Jain oeuvre is to be found at exclusive boutiques
in India, Greece and England.
A singular feature of Studio Payal Jain is the seamless integration
of design and production processes with the revival of traditional
crafts being an important leitmotif. Most fabrics used in
Payal Jain ensembles are unique and have been hand-woven in
the Studio's weaving unit. Working with diverse fabrics like
silk, cotton, wool and linen, she endeavours to experiment
and to create something different.
Printing is done manually with natural vegetable dyes at the
Studio's print atelier. Combining age-old Indian techniques
with a modern approach, master printers at the atelier produce
striking, unorthodox prints. Different each season, these
eclectic prints are a hallmark of the Studio. Another strength
of the Studio is hand embroidery where traditional motifs
and techniques are continuously re-interpreted to suit contemporary
fashion trends. The forte of Studio Payal Jain is women's
wear including eco-friendly accessories like jewellery, scarves,
shoes and hats.
The modern, fashion conscious woman has three lines to choose
from, each with exclusive designs and garments that are one
of a kind. La ligne heureuse is an exciting and adventurous
line of constructed daywear consisting vibrant and chic silhouettes
for women of all ages. La ligne mur is a simplistic line with
an emphasis on design and fit. The range consists of sophisticated,
career and evening suits for women executives. La ligne elegance
has formal evening ensemble, graceful and elegant with rich
fabrics flowing into extravagant silhouettes.
Apart from the three Prêt-a-porter collections a year, the
Studio also does Haute Couture for discerning clients. With
the individual being the focus of every design, these garments
complement the personality of the person they are designed
for. Highly aware of its social responsibilities, the Studio
utilizes its creative abilities towards various social causes,
from raising of funds for worthy charities, working for co-operatives,
to bringing about social awareness. In fact, every fashion
show done by the Studio is for a voluntary organization, a
small contribution to help their efforts in making our world
a better place to live in. Working together as a large family,
it is the Studio's tireless workers who have made it all possible.
A result of their resolute trust and commitment.
In the near future, the Studio plans to move into lifestyle
design consultancy. Becoming a single source for a complete
wardrobe, fabrics, home furnishings, travel accessories and
furniture.
