International
Kite Festival: This immensely
popular kite flying festival is held in important cities
of Gujarat. The festival lures expert kite-makers and
fliers not only from major cities of India but also
from around the world. A plethora of designer kites
are also put on display.
Modhera Dance Festival:
The dance festival goes on for three days. It is held
annually at the site of the ancient Sun Temple at Modhera
in Mehsana District.
Dang Darbar: The
tribal people of Dangs congregate on the occasion of
Holi and celebrate the festival of colours in their
own unique way. The event is held at Ahwa, in Dang District.
Janmashtami Festival: The state of Gujarat
is the abode of Lord Krishna, his own land. On September
5, that is Janmashtami, the day the Lord was born, the
town of Dwarka comes alive, with major celebrations
and hordes of visitors. Tourism Corporation of Gujarat
Ltd. offers a package tour, accommodation and catering
services at Dwarka.
Navratri Festival:
The nine nights sacred to the Mother Goddess are occasions
for vibrant festivities throughout the country. It commemorates
the victory of Goddess Durga over a demon of the same
name. During Navaratri, devotees of Durga fast and pray
for health and prosperity. They worship a different
manifestation of Durga every night. The young and old
dancing Garba or Dandiya - Ras throughout the night,
testify to the exuberant nature of this festival. The
Navratri festival celebrations at Ahmedabad and Baroda
are famous throughout Gujarat.
