India Fashion Week - Day 6 |
Show
1: Sabyascahi and Swapan and Seema
Sabyascahi:
Day 6 of Lakme Fashion Week started off with an intellectually
whimsical collection of Sabyascahi that created the
fun idiom for Indian fashion. Stunning in its use of
exquisite colour mixes, extraordinary fabric ornamentation
and unusual silhouettes. Bohemian chic was reinterpreted
for Indian silhouettes with patch skirts, churidars,
tunics, blouses, jackets and sarees. The colours were
rich, contrasting yet completely harmonious in their
appeal- a range of fuchsias, oranges, peacock greens,
reds, henna, and turquoise. Brocades, duppioni, tanchois,
antique saree-borders, and bandhanis were creatively
assembled.
Swapan
and Seema: Followed by was the very simple and extraordinary
traditional collection of Swapan and Seema. The usual
but graceful blend of Indian shapes worked upon with
embroideries, the use of flamboyant colours like warm
tones of fuchsia, orange, rust and the ever present
black, created garments for formal occasions. Crepes,
georgettes and jacquards were dip dyed, and ombre dyed
to craft a mature yet elegant line.
Show 2: Lalit and Sunita Jalan and Neeta Bhargava
Lalit
and Sunita Jalan: The
next show was presented by Lalit and Sunita Jalan which
basically focused on a collection for men and women
for evening wear, casual lounge wear and comfy casual
shirts. Sherwanis, cool long kurtas, short shirts and
comfortable pants, put together in fabrics like fresh
cream cottons, woven, textured checks and delicate silks
formed the fabric story with women clad in saris, salwar-
kameezes and skirts to complement the men.
Neeta
Bhargava: Followed by was designer Neeta Bhargava
who delighted the audience with an eclectic mix of thread
embroideries, expressive colours like turquoise and
white, the colours for this season, embellished with
delicate flower trellises were very eye-catching. Bold
flame colours of orange, mango, ochre and red were beautifully
enhanced with floral hand painted motifs. Fabrics such
as crepes, organzas and georgettes were molded into
wrap skirts, sarongs, short dresses, kurtas and the
essential saris.
Show
3: Meera and Muzzafar Ali
Next
was the creation of Meera and Muzzafar Ali. Silhouettes
meant for a woman with taste, were delicately put together
in soft ecrus, candy peach, rose pink, mystical lilac,
moss greens and lissome lemons. Every detail of embroidery
and clothing had a reflection of the Kotwara essence…..purity,
perfection and simplicity. Graceful embellishments in
thread and silver and gold were meticulously used in
chevrons, soft block prints and floral motifs. Sherwanis
worn with kurtas, khulla pajamas and churidars created
a delectable collection for men. The women adorned lehengas,
short kurtas, diaphanous dupattas in soft maheshwaris
and chanderis.
Show 4: Vallaya Studio
The
last show of the day was beautifully presented by J
J Vallaya whose collection had all the elegance and
classic appeal so very true of Vallaya. His collection
was a mélange of western and Indian silhouettes and
featured sarees, blouses, skirts, lehengas, kurtas,
and pants for women and had pants, pajamas, bandis,
and jackets for men. Colours like yellow, fuchsia, red,

on the collection.
